Self Portrait Tuesday- Personal History
This is Z and me in China on what I think was our third day together. This right after the first bath I had ever given her. I waited a couple of days because she had already been through so much that I didn't want to freak her out by putting her in the bathtub. However, as soon as I started to draw the bath she started to giggle. Turns out she loves the bathtub! It was so much fun, but kind of scary because I had never bathed a child before. It is now 8 months and countless baths later and I'm now a pro at giving baths to a wiggly toddler.

That is an awesome photo! It really shows how much Z loves to bathe!

I love her smile in that photo. What a happy picture--you both look like you are giggling. I've got a big old grin on over here just seeing how much you were enjoying yourselves.

That's so cute! As someone who thinks adoption is a pretty awesome option, I love adoption stories. Like, to the point that I wish TLC did a stupid, cheesy show on them, like it does on everything else. So thanks for giving me my episodes of Adoption Story! (Only, you know, not stupid or cheesy. I just realized that in the context, that last sentence could be taken as a huge insult!)

I try, when I am with a child who has just come to a family, to imagine what that baby is thinking.
You could not have known she loved the bathtub...and never having given a bath to a wee one you were right to be cautious.
But imagine hearing only english?
Imagine the scents and sounds of a different world?
Youngest used to sit in the baby room with a baby who had just been adopted from Mexico. He was a quiet baby and would sit and stare at her.
And she would sit with her eyes wide - a little startled, and you could just tell she was taking it all in.
Sometimes when I look at those pictures of Z from the beginning she looks a little confused -
but always beautiful.

I love the photo. I too waited for a few days in China. And, wow did she love the water. Bath in the morning and then pool in the afternoon!
