Felted Hat
Want to see what else you can make out of a felted sweater? This hat!
I wanted something special for a certain birthday girl and I knew that this hat had to be it.
I cut, pinned, sewed, thought things were going well, got frustrated and annoyed that things were not going well, and after two days, I finished it. The entire time I worked on it, I thought about the birthday girl. I love that it is recycled from a thrifted sweaters, and that the button is vintage (and bought while I was with the birthday girl's mom.)
I am in love with felted wool. I love how it looks, how it feels, and everything else about it. And I love this hat. If you're interested in making one, run out and buy Amy Karol's book.
I am really excited about two wook blankets that I got this weekend. I bought them on day two, but I knew the night of day one that I should have bought at least one of them when I first saw them. As soon as we got to the flea market on day two, I speed walked straight to the booth that had them, yanked one (petal pink in color) off the table and threw my money at the seller. I told her that I might be back for the blue one later in the day. And I did go back. When I had had enough of the suffocating crowd, I speed walked back to the blanket and once again threw my money at the seller. She commented on the beauty of the blankets and how their condition was perfect, etc. I didn't dare tell her that I would be cutting up the blankets, because the last time I did that the seller told me that she wouldn't sell me the blanket knowing I was going to cut it up. So I just agreed with the wool blanket lady that yes, they would look lovely on a bed.

I never admit that I'm cutting up books, either (or letters, maps, etc) when I buy them at estate sales. I'm frightened that they won't let me complete the purchase.
Where'd you get that sweet little hat model form?

It is beautiful! I love it--truly! I also loved reading about your adventures in Canton. I am feeling all sentimental now and wanna go again. I love the little Canton-found button on the hat.

You put your child mannequin up on the blog! I want that little guy so much! Cutie cute, cute, cute. We are enjoying the hat. She does look super cute in it. I think every 2-year-old and tiny 3-year-old needs one. That hat has pushed me over the hump. I will felt.

I love that book and have been eyeing that hat for some time. Need to make adjustments though for my 4 year-old's big head. Cute!

Is the Amy Karol book that you recommend titled "Bend-the-Rules Sewing: The Essential Guide to a Whole New Way to Sew" ?
I'm looking for ways to use felted sweaters, hats particularly.
Any other great hints?
