Update

We're still in Alabama.  Z and I are leaving for Austin today and my parents and brother will return to the coast as soon as they are allowed. 

We heard from someone that the area where my parent's house and our rental house is located wasn't destroyed.  Keep your fingers crossed. 

Unfortunately for my friend and her family it was not so for them.  I received a text message from her saying, "Alive. Lost all."  Thankfully, they are safe.  That is what matters.  Please keep them in your thoughts.

Evacuated

Z and I were in Mississippi visiting my parents.  Where in Mississippi?  Right on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.  Right where the hurricane hit.  From reading the reports, landmarks that I drove past just a couple of days ago are gone.  Entire beaches have been wiped clean of any buildings or homes.  It is horrible. 

My parents, brother, dog, cat, Z, and I have evacuated to Alabama.  We've been holed up in a comfy hotel for the last two days.  All we do is watch CNN, entertain Z, and eat.  We have not been able to get in touch with anyone on the coast.

I don't know what we're going to find when we go back.  Maybe my parent's will have a house standing and maybe they won't.  It is scary that that is a possibility. Tomorrow will bring a better idea of what the coast is dealing with.  And maybe tomorrow we'll find out when we can return.  Hopefully it will be soon.   

Right now,  more important the condition of our houses.....we're really scared and concerned about some good friends their family.  They live on the water and they did not evacuate.  I feel sick thinking about them.  I hope they are okay, I really hope they are okay right now.    

Am I ever glad that we got the hell out of there.

Fallen

While walking with Z in my arms, I tripped.  In order to keep from falling on top of her I fell sideways and didn't put my hands out to brace my fall.  And as a result, I fell into a suitcase and these metal rods in the suitcase dug into my ribcage.  Holy hell, the pain!  Z was okay, thank goodness, but I could barely move.  And breathing anything other than quick, shallow breaths was torture.  But Z fell asleep, I was tired, it was late, and I figured I would live so I went to bed. 

Then this morning I woke up and felt way worse.  What worried me the most was that my blood has been testing ultra thin lately so the hypochondriac in me imagined that I was bleeding internally.  So off to an urgent care facility we went, as it was too early for a doctor's office. 

Turns out that my ribs are intact and I am not bleeding internally.  Praise be!  I was charged $78 and sent on my way.  $78!  That is a bargain.  I swear, I've had to take Lola to the emergency vet clinic four times and the least expensive visit cost us $300.  Maybe the next time Lola needs after hours medical care Urgent Care will see her.   

 

Very Quick, very, very quick update

Z didn't want to take her first nap today.  So instead she just rolled around in her crib talking inbetween the songs being played by her cd player.  I snuck down to peek at her and she was just laying there with her feet propped up on the crib rails, hugging on to her bunny, and listening to the music. 

Damn, she is cute.  She is giving kisses now.  If you ask her for a kiss, she will pucker up and stick her chin out for you to plant one on her.  However, if you ask for multiple kisses, she will start to give you the kind where her mouth is wide open and she will try to eat your lips.  Ouch.  I learned the hard way.  She also does peek-a-boo now, she waves, and she does her own special something that we've named "power."  She makes two fists, grits her teeth, and tenses up her body while shaking her fists.  It is hilarious! 

She turned one last Saturday!  The big #1. My girl is 12 months!
