Before we moved here, Ray bumped into Ann Richards in the Austin airport.  He said to her, "Wow, you must get recognized a lot here." 

Without missing a beat, she replied, "Honey, I get recognized a lot everywhere." 

Needle Case

Last night I felt the need for some crafty instant gratification, so I made this wee needle case. 

   

It took me less than thirty minutes to make this.  However, it should have taken less than 15 minutes.  Hell, probably less than ten.  But I like to stay consistent and mess up at least once every time I make something. 

How could one screw up making something as simple as this no sewing involved needle case?  Well, let me tell you.  I had to put in two grommets in this sucker and one of those grommets kept coming loose.  So I put in two replacement grommets, but that didn't help.  And then in the end, I decided that the loose grommet wasn't so bad. 

Always.

My friend left yesterday.  It was a good visit.  I did stuff I wouldn't have made time for had she not come and that was good.  Every night after Zorba went to bed, my friend and I went out and did something.  The first night we painted pottery, the second night we saw a movie (Little Miss Sunshine.  Go see it!), and the last night we went out to eat and played Bingo!  I have to say that I had a good ol' time at Bingo.  We didn't win, but it was fun.   

I'm trying to organize my little sewing nook so I can get back to sewing and hopefully that will happen this week.  I say hopefully, because Zorba wants to have one hand on me at all times right now.  She wants me to play with her, sit with her while she plays, or hold her constantly.  I'm in constant negotiations with her to let me do something without her and for her to do something without me.  I've been giving in to this desire of her's to be constantly touching me though.  Sometimes I'll just sit next to her while she plays, or I'll vacuum with her on my hip, or we'll eat dinner with her sitting on my lap.  When I get frustrated that she cries because I want to get up to dishes I try to remind myself to be grateful that she wants so much mama/Zorba time because I know it won't always be so.  But still, I'm not going to lie, it is difficult sometimes and I look forward to her bed time (mama time!).  But now that I've had a few hours to myself  I miss her.  Ain't that the way?  When I go somewhere without her, she is all I think about.  When I was out painting pottery, watching a movie, and playing Bingo I was always thinking about my girl.  Always. 

Self Portrait Challenge - Week 2 - With Someone

Last Thursday afternoon, I was driving out of my neighborhood when I felt someone looking at me, so I turned to my right and there on the side of the road sat this beauty school head.  After I picked my friend up at the airport it the head was still there when we came home that evening.  So, of course I had to get the head, right?  I had to.  Her name is Danielle and she is helping me out with my Self Portrait Challenge entry this week. 

Me:  What happened to your hair, Danielle?

Danielle:  No, what happened to YOUR hair, Shelba? 

You probably can't tell by looking at her, but Danielle is hilarious!  Hilarious.

Not Enough Time

I'm coming to the realization that with only 2.5 hours until I have to leave for the airport, that I'm not going to get the house just as I like it.  Hell, I'm not even going to make it to the grocery store.  Oh, well, I don't think she is going to mind.  But still, I have 2.5 hours to go so I can't stop now.  Not even with Zorba walking behind me and leaving messes like this:

Self Portrait Challenge - With Someone Week one

So the facial and bikini wax weren't that great.  Did I mention that the waxer wouldn't do my eyebrows because she was scared of what happened with the bikini wax?  Well she wouldn't do my eyebrows.  It was probably for the best.  But I did just get back from having my hair cut and that went much better. 

Now on to Self Portrait Challenge.  Nothing new for me this week.  How many times have I take pictures of Zorba and myself?  I can't even count.  And we usually take photographs in the same spot.  Zorba knows that if she sits in that chair, chances are the camera is coming out.  I couldn't pick just one....

Me saying through gritted teeth, "Dog, you stink like butt."  And Zorba saying through gritted teeth, "Caca." 

Kallie had just given us a face full of pug tongue.  We're talking serious caca smell.

That is a smile of a woman who loves her minivan.

Want to Help Me Out?

So I'm flying around here like a chicken with it's you know what cut off.  My best friend from high school is coming in to town tomorrow and I'm crazy trying to get the house ready for her arrival, plus I have several appointments and tons of errands to run tomorrow, then pick her up from the airport, yada yada yada yada.  And tomorrow is my day to post to the Self Portrait Challenge. 

So....here is how you can help me out if you're interested.  Maybe you know that I USUALLY participate in the Self Portrait Challenge.  I'm submitting late this week, because this week's entry is going to include my friend in the pic.  But besides doing weekly pictures, I post my five faves for the week on the Self Portrait Challenge site. 

I click through all of the entries, choose my five favorites and then write something about how the pictures makes me feel.  My feature is called, "You Make Me Feel Like..."  OKay, so I need five people to pick their favorite picture from the list and then write something about how that picture makes you feel.  I usually walk through how I interpret the picture and then end it by saying, "She/He makes me feel like (Fill in the blank).

If you are interested in doing this, send me an email or leave a comment here.  I'm going to need you to supply me with the link of the person's picture that you like along with what you want to say about it, etc.  I will give you credit for choosing the picture and for your commentary.

Cruisin' for a Bruisin'

Said to me while getting my bikini area waxed tonight:  Do you bruise easily? 

Me:  Well, I'm on a blood thinner, so there is always the possibility. 

Waxer:  You might want to take a look. 

Me:  Whoa. 

My bikini area looks like it has been in a car accident.  We're talking ugly, deep purple bruises.  I guess maybe my blood is a little too thin.  Thank goodness I'm having my blood checked tomorrow.  Perhaps I need to feast on some broccoli before I go to sleep.

MiniVan Mama

I've made my conversion into suburban stay-at-home mama complete...I now drive a minivan.   And I love it!  I drove home from the dealer with Zorba in the backseat and I was pitifully excited.  Pitifully excited.  I don't care that it is not a cool car, that it is not fancy or sexy, I just love the 16 cup holders, and all of the room a minivan will provide me to lug stuff around. 

Had you been in the passenger seat when I got behind the wheel of my sweet ride today, you would have heard me say, "Baby, mama's home."
