Glitter Girl

My friend Susan is flying in the day after Halloween. She needs a little get-away and it has been a year since we've seen her, so here she comes! I'm dragging taking her to Canton and then maybe the Quilt Festival in Houston. I'm still not sure on the Quilt Festival though. It will depend on how hot it is in Canton and how much we're into it.

I'm leaving Zorba again. I go back and forth on whether we should take her or not, but I think I am going to leave her with her father. It will be easier to fight the crowds and I won't have to worry about her getting bored, potty breaks, feeding her, getting away from me, etc. And I have to be honest, I'm really looking forward to sleeping in the hotel, taking my time eating in restaurants, taking my time doing everything! But I will still miss my girl.

I let Zorba fulfill one of her lifelong dreams of using glitter freely. A couple vials of glitter, a 3.00 fake pumpkin, Martha glitter glue, craft paint, and a lot of glitter on the floor and she was in heaven!

The World's Softest Doll Quilt

I bought a vintage quilt the last time I was at Canton. The top was in good shape, but the binding, the yarn it was tied with, and the back of the quilt didn't look so good. I bought knowing exactly what I would do with it...make it into doll quilts.

And here is the first one.

I quilted it and tied it with new embroidery floss.

This quilt has one of my most favorite fabrics ever. It is a print of a weird, purple, and little guy with an umbrella. I love him.

It also has a Snow White and the Seven Dwarves print on there that is actually cute.

I wanted to keep it as vintage as possible, so I was determined to use vintage fabric for the back of the quilt as well. And finally, the fabric hoarding I've been doing paid off. I bought a vintage duvet cover about five years ago that was meant to go on the back of this quilt.

It is the softest doll quilt on the planet. It is super, duper soft.

What I'm Working On

Can't Sleep.

Zorba got up at 12:45 am and told me that she couldn't sleep.  Of course, I was having no problem sleeping.  But I got up and went down to her room to lay next to her until she got sleepy.  25 minutes later, I was back in my bed, but wide awake.  And now it is 2:15 and I'm very awake.  Kallie, who is tired, is sitting out here with me.  Sweet girl. 

I want to be tired.  I wish that when I go back to bed that I will feel tired enough to fall back asleep.

It Feels Like Sunday, But It Is Monday

We're home from a quick trip to Ray's parent's house in Louisiana.  We left Friday afternoon and got home on Monday afternoon.  And we're exhausted!  Even the dogs are tired and they didn't come with us.  Zorba was so tired that she passed out within moments of me walking out of her room tonight. 

The weather was perfect in Louisiana.  It felt like fall!  Well, fall in the south, not the fall up north.  But still, it wasn't burning hot and we were out in the country.  It was so nice out that Zorba and I went on a nature gathering walk.  She filled 3 one gallon bags of candy balls, pine cones, acorns, and leaves.  And I filled half of one of those black garbage bags  with pine cones.  I'm planning on filling the wood bowls that I can't stop buying with the pine cones, in case you're wondering.

I made myself learn how to embroider this weekend!  It was more difficult than I thought it would be, but I kept forcing myself to try different stitches until I got it.  And now I'm an embroidering fool.  Some stitches still make my head hurt, but I'm determined to conquer them.  Yes, I am. 

Train

I signed Zorba up for her first Litt*le Gym class by herself. The first class wasn't a success. She wasn't down with doing the class without me and she wanted nothing to do with the teachers. Nothing. She didn't listen to them, interact with them, etc. I started to wonder if maybe I shouldn't switch to another mom and me class, but the teachers encouraged me to give it some time and I agreed. Then we went to MS for a month.

So today was her first day back. I took her and didn't expect it to go well, but it did! She was okay with me sitting outside the room and she did great! She listened to the teachers and had a great time. She would check in with me by looking at me through the window and we would give each other the thumbs up. And she would look at me and I would nod yes to her and she would nod yes back to me with a big smile on her face. She had such a great time and I had such a great time watching her have a great time. It was great!

Something is up with my camera. Everyone is coming out orange. I know that there is a super simple way to fix this in camera, but I need to sit down with my manual to figure out how to do it. Must figure out how to de-oompaloompafy people.

More Flea Market Finds

I spent the weekend cleaning out my craft "room." My craft "room" is in my laundry room. It had gotten out of control in there. So much so that I didn't want to craft nor do laundry in there. It was a mess! Ray put up some more shelves for me and that has helped. I even scrubbed the floor behind all of my storage bins and dusted everything clean. It is almost done now. Just a few more things to do.

It is supposed to be in the 70's this week. I don't believe it. I absolutely do not believe it. It is not possible. But please, please, please, let me be wrong.

A few more flea market treasures:

More barkcloth. This one is from Canton. It was made into a pillow, but I've already ripped it a part. It needs to be washed. I don't know if that nasty brown stain will come out, but if not, I'll just have to cut around it. I paid $6.00 for this. There is a linen lady in Canton and nothing in her booth is priced. Everything is in these huge laundry bins, you dig through it, and then bring it up to her for her to price.

I was standing amongst the linen lady's bins with Grrltravels and I had this particular barkcloth on my cart and this half crazed woman came up to me and said, "Where did you get that?!" As if we were at Kmart and there was plenty more of that to get. Believe me, I would have snatched all of that up had there been more. I'm greedy like that.

Fabric!

A small blanket from Canton. $3.00. Before I soaked this, it was dirty and it stunk. It smells good now and is actually a cute blanket. I was going to cut it up, but I'm not in a rush now.
